         Dr. Louis T LaPorta

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. LaPorta has been providing competent, caring, creative, and compassionate psychological services for more than 25 years. He conducts psychological evaluations, assessments, and screenings, and provides individual, group, family, and couple's therapy. He treats individuals with anxiety, depression, a history of trauma, substance abuse, and difficulties with anger management. Dr. LaPorta has successfully treated patients with eating disorders, dissociative disorders, addictions, intrusive thoughts, compulsions, and excessive worry.  If you are looking to work with a therapist who can identify in your specific issues which cause and perpetuate problematic patterns of behavior and thinking, he will work with you to tailor a treatment approach which will uniquely address your concerns.

Dr. LaPorta is a graduate of Nova Southeastern University's APA accredited Doctor of Psychology graduate program where he earned master's and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology.  Dr. LaPorta completed an APA accredited internship in clinical psychology at Florida State Hospital. He completed his psychology residency at Palm Beach County School District/45th Street Mental Health Consortium where he worked with students classified as severely emotionally disturbed.  Dr. LaPorta received his post-doctoral advanced training psychopharmacology at New Mexico State University.

Dr. LaPorta is also a graduate of Rutgers University where he received a degree in the biological sciences with a major specialization in neurobiology and behavior, and minor specialization in environmental science.  He is also a graduate of the University of Central Florida where he received a degree in general psychology.

Dr. LaPorta has specialized training having completed three year-long practical treating individuals with anxiety disorders, sexual abuse survivors and trauma, and in correction mental health.  He has worked or trained at all levels of government, including municipal, county, state, and federal levels.

Having worked with patients from age 5 to 105, he has extensive experience and training working with children and families. He has worked with children and adults in a variety of settings including learning centers, public and private schools, crisis units, residential programs, psychiatric and general hospitals, community mental health centers, detention and correctional institutions, skilled nursing facilities, and in private practice.

Dr. LaPorta has also worked as a science writer, columnist, and radio show host, and provided education and training at the college undergraduate and graduate academic levels.  He also developed a continuing education program for licensed clinicians, and a nationally recognized clinical internship for doctoral students. He is a Florida Qualified Supervisor for mental health clinicians seeking licensure.
